Body of missing kayaker found in Sangamon River
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Update 2:12 p.m.
The Sangamon County Coroner's Office has confirmed the finding of 30-year-old Shane Shomidie's body near the Business I-55 bridge.
An autopsy was performed today and the results indicated that there was no evidence of trauma.
The final autopsy results are pending microscopic and toxicology studies. Shomidie's death is still under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner's Office and the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office.
The Sangamon County Chief Deputy Coroner first confirmed to Newschannel 20 they recovered the body under the I-55 Business bridge just before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards reported the body was that of a white man.

Riverside Park in Springfield has been shut down.
Newschannel 20 has learned the Sangamon County Rescue Squad called the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department Tuesday morning to ask them to close down the entire park.
This shut down comes as the search continues for missing kayaker, Shane Shomidie.
