Some Urbana families rang in the new year early
Some families rang in the new year a little earlier Monday at the Urbana Library.
It was a way to celebrate 2019 without having to stay up - it was something many parents were thankful for.
The library calls it "Noon Year's Eve."
Kids counted down off a big screen and decorated party hats.
"If kids would rather be asleep at the actual new year's, they can do that or parents would rather have them do that then...But it is always very popular and we always get a great turnout," Rachel Vellenga, with the Urbana Free Library, said.
The library has been doing this for more than 20 years.
It's also become a way to teach children about how different cultures celebrate the new year.
