Springfield is getting prepared for Hunger Action Month
The Central Illinois Foodbank is gearing up for Hunger Action Month.
It's part of a nationwide initiative that nearly 200 food banks across the country will participate this September.
The campaign aims to teach community members how hunger impacts everyone.
In the central Illinois area alone, nearly 100,000 people don't know where their next meal is coming from.
"It's working families where they’re not able to make ends meet we just want to make sure people realize that anything extra you can do to help is appreciated," Central Illinois Foodbank Public Relations Manager Ashley Earnest said.
If you give $10 through the food bank, officials can donate 10 gallons of milk.
Organizers hope to raise 1,000 gallons in the month of September.
