Springfield to build police dog training facility
Springfield City Council recently accepted a bid to build a new police dog training facility.
The facility will be used to train and house Springfield's seven canine units.
Currently, Springfield's police dogs are sent outside the department for training.
The project will cost roughly $460,000 to complete.
Though building the new facility is costly, Police Chief Kenny Winslow says it is direly needed and will ultimately save the city money.
There is no construction timeline or projected opening date yet.
