State museum remembers an all African-American regiment from WWI
The Illinois State Museum remembered an all-black regiment from Illinois that served in World War I.
The 370th infantry was the only all-black regiment that had both African American soldiers and officers in the war.
Director of the Illinois Military Museum, Paul Fanning, said the regiment did honorable things to carve a way forward for other soldiers.
“As they went overseas they set the standard,” said Fanning, “they showed they could fight, they showed they could serve along and as good as any white gentleman out there.”
Saturday the Illinois State Museum showed the film Fighting on Both Fronts.
A living historian answered questions and showed a special display.
