CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) — The University of Illinois student government continues to try to get rid of the Chief Illiniwek logo.
The student government is holding an event all week inviting people to turn in Chief Illiniwek gear in exchange for new University of Illinois gear.
Things like shirts, water bottles, and socks can be traded in.
"This will allow people to feel more comfortable and feel like they're being heard on campus and that they belong here without feeling their racial stereotypes are being spread around campus," said student government press secretary Katrina Rbeiz.
Items can be traded in at the Native American Cultural Center or at the Women's Resource Center on campus until March 9.
