CHARLESTON, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) —
INCIDENT: Charleston High School Safety Issue
LOCATION: Charleston High School
On Monday, 12/03/18, at approximately 7:45 a.m., school officials at the Charleston High School became aware of a threat made by an individual toward the safety of several students. Detectives from the Charleston Police Department, along with the Charleston High School Administration, investigated this incident, which resulted in a school suspension and arrest of the 17 year old suspect student.
The student was confronted as he arrived at school and found to have no weapons on his person. Toward the conclusion of the investigation, this threat was deemed only verbal and there is no evidence to suggest the student had any real thoughts of harming any other students or staff at CHS. The investigation into this incident resulted in the arrest of the juvenile suspect on a class 4 felony charge of Disorderly Conduct. He was later released to the custody of his mother.
The Charleston School District and Charleston Police Department take ALL school related threats very seriously. Any such threats will be pursued criminally.
