Women For Women Initiative Awards $40,000 to Local Groups
A donation of $40,000 was gifted to three local organizations thanks to the Women for Women Initiative. Over the last nine years, the organization awarded several local groups more than $200,000.
The organization of over 100 members held its annual grant awards ceremony Thursday. This year's grant recipients were Compass for Kids, Girls on the Run of Central Illinois and The Parent Place. Organizers say the mission of the women fund is to give back to the community by supporting groups benefiting both women and children.
"As an individual, I can make a small donation, which has an impact. When we're able to combine them together, we make a bigger impact," said Susan White who is a member of the Women for Women Initiative.
This year's donations will cover the cost of summer camp for 20 homeless elementary students in Springfield, buy updated curriculum manuals for girls on the run and expand the nurturing mothers education and support group. The women for women initiative is a part of the community foundation for the Land of Lincoln. Each active member pledges to give one thousand dollars a year which is turn is given back to our community.
