University of Illinois Springfield baseball set to host Midwest Regional

Springfield, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — The University of Illinois Springfield will host the Midwest Regional #2 this week as the Prairie Stars are the number two seed in their region and the top seed in their weekend grouping.

The University of Indianapolis, Maryville, and Ashland are among the other teams in Springfield's bracket group. Springfield will open up their regional play against U-Indy on Thursday at 12 pm. The regional group will consist of a double-elimination format.

The championship game will be played on Saturday, if the team left undefeated loses, the final game will be played on Sunday for a spot in this year's Division 2 Championship bracket.

Coach Ryan Copeland confirmed on Wednesday that Chad Saner will start game one on the mound for the Prairie Stars.
