Bren Spillane drafted 82nd overall by Cincinnati Reds, Joey Gerber drafted by Mariners
Bren Spillane's record setting season at Illinois continued today. First ever player to win 3 straight Big Ten Player of the Week Awards, first ever Illini player to win National Player of the Year, now the highest drafted position player in Illinois history.
Spillane selected by the Cincinnati Reds as the 4th pick in the 3rd round (82nd overall).
Later on in the draft, Illinois closer Joey Gerber drafted by the Seattle Mariners. Gerber was taken in the 8th round. He tied an Illinois record this season going a perfect 14-14 in save opportunities.
