Illinois' Bret Bielema has a history of turning college football players into NFL stars and this past weekend, four of his 2022 players, were drafted in the first seven rounds of this year's NFL draft. Following the draft, as of May 1st, six players have signed undrafted free-agent contracts with various teams across the NFL. This would total 10 players currently signed to an NFL team.
Devon Witherspoon (DB) was drafted #5 overall by the Seattle Seahawks.
Jartavius Martin (DB) was drafted #47 overall by the Washington Commanders.
Sydney Brown (S) was drafted #66 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chase Brown (RB) was drafted 163rd overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Tommy Devito (QB) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants.
Alex Pihlstrom (OL) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints
Calvin Avery (DL) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings.
Kendall Smith (DB) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Commanders.
Isaac Darkangelo (LB) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Lions
Alex Palczewski (OL) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos.
OTA's (organized team activities) for various teams began this past week and will continue periodically throughout the month of May and into the summer.
